Eagle -Scoring term indicating two under par.

Etiquette -Behavior on the course extended to fellow players, including care of the course.

Explosion shot -A full swing motion used from the sand when the ball is resting on top of the sand.

Fairway -Closely mowed route of play between teeing area and putting green.

Fixed center -The imaginary point located near the sternum around which the swing turns.

Flagstick -A thin, movable pole with a flag attached at the top, centered in the hole of the putting green to indicate its location. Also

called pin.

Follow-through -The completion phase of the swing.

Fore -Warning cry indicating potential danger from a hit ball.

Forecaddie -A person assigned to indicate to players the positions of balls on he course.

Forward swing -The second part of the execution phase, in which the club moves toward the ball from the top of the back swing.

Foursome -Group of four players.

Full swing -The swing motion used to produce distance.

Green -The short-cut grass area in which the putting cup is located.

Grip -The position of the hands on the club.

Grooves -The indented areas on the clubface that appear as lines.

Gross score -Total number of strokes taken to complete a designated round.

Ground -Touching the surface or ground with the sole of the club at address.

Ground under repair -A marked area on the course under repair, which allows for a free drop if the ball lands in it.

Handicap -A deduction from a player's gross score devised to match his score against par and to equate differential abilities of other players.

Halved -Competitive term used to indicate identical scores on a hole.

Hazard -A term used to designate bunkers or water areas.

Hook -A stroke made by a right-handed player which curves the ball to the left of the target. For the left-handed player, the ball will curve to the right.
